When it is time to put your little baby down to sleep, there are a few simple things you can do to help them sleep safe and sound. First, make sure the mattress is nice and firm so your baby is supported during their sleep. Secondly, you should only ever place them on their back to sleep. This is widely recommended in reducing the incidence of SIDS.
Now that the mattress is firm and your bub has been placed on their back, you can refer to the diagram opposite, showing that you should have your baby’s feet at the foot of the cot with the bed covering firmly tucked in on either side. The cot covering should be no higher than the baby’s shoulders. This is called the ‘feet to foot’ method, and will help prevent your little one from wriggling down underneath the sheets and covers.
And remember, always make sure you can see your baby’s face, and that it remains uncovered during their sleep.
Did you know that young babies cannot control their own body temperature? This is why it is so important to monitor the temperature of your baby’s room so it is neither too warm, nor too cool. The ideal temperature for bubs nursery is 18°C/65°F.

The bedding guide we have created for you will very quickly become your new best friend! Use it as a guide to help figure out the right amount of bedding and sleepwear your baby needs to get a restful nights sleep.
Remember that you should also always check the temperature of your baby regularly by feeling their back. The skin should feel warm to touch. If it feels cold, then add one layer of clothing, and if it feels hot, then remove one layer of clothing. Please note: A blanket that doubles over (is folded in half) counts as two layers.
There are a few simple steps you can take to help your new baby adjust to the outside world in the safest possible way and these include:
Cigarette smoke is bad for babies
It is a widely known fact that cigarette smoke harms babies during pregnancy and after the baby has been born.
Please do not smoke when you are pregnant and do not let anyone smoke near you.
It is also strongly recommended by medical practitioners that you do not let anyone smoke near your baby and especially in your baby's room.
